Nigerian elites are harassing us despite our effort, they are not interested in rating competence - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has accused Nigerian elites of harassing his administration despite its effort.

Speaking in his Daura hometown in Katsina State after revalidating his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari alleged that Nigerian elites are not interested in rating his administration's competence but are rather harassing them.

He said;

“The problem is that I will like especially the elites to please be reflective. When we came, where we were, the resources available from them and the condition of the infrastructure. I was contrived to go over it several times to tell Nigerians that between 1999 and 2014, let them check with the NNPC, let them check with the governor of Central Bank, production was 2.4 million barrels per day and the average cost was $100 per barrel. So for a year’s daily production, Nigeria would earn having 2.4×100 dollars every day. But look at the condition of infrastructure, you know this better than I do.

“I know I went to every local government of the country in my three consecutive attempts to become the President. You know the road more than I do. You know the condition of the rail, the railway is dead. Now look at it everywhere we go, what did they do with all these monies?

“When we took over the administration, production went down to about half a million barrels per day, the price collapsed. We had to do what is called a bailout, wherever we got the money from. Upon all the money from 1999 to 2014 we gave out money from the Centre to pay salaries. No, Nigerian elites are not interested in rating the competence but they are interested in harassing us with all efforts we are making."

Cross River assembly finally confirms Justice Ikpeme as Chief Judge after rejecting her twice because of "state of origin"

Cross River assembly finally confirms Justice Ikpeme as Chief Judge after rejecting her twice because of "state of origin"

The Cross River State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice Akon Ikpeme as the substantive chief judge of the state after rejecting her twice on grounds of "not being from Cross River state".

Ikpeme's state of origin (Akwa Ibom state) had stirred up controversy in the assembly even though she was born in Cross River, schooled in the state, practised law in the state, married a Cross Riverian and also gave birth to children who are all from Cross River state.

In spite of the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) and Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) backing, the state assembly rejected the appointment of Ikpeme, who is the most senior judge in the state twice on grounds of “state of origin”.

Ikpeme was however confirmed on Thursday January 28 following a motion moved by Peter Odey, the lawmaker representating of Ogoja constituency and seconded by Okon Ephraim, the lawmaker representing Calabar south 1.

The new Chief Judge was born in Calabar, Cross River, when Akwa Ibom was a part of Cross River. She has been working for decades as a judicial officer, including being a director of public prosecution and a judge in Cross River.

Akwa Ibom was created out of Cross River on September 23, 1987, by the military regime of Ibrahim Babangida.

Family of four killed in ‘murder-suicide’ after ‘dad bought gun and cancelled visit from relatives

Family of four killed in ?murder-suicide? after ?dad bought gun and cancelled visit from relatives

A Pennsylvania father and his family have died in a suspected murder-suicide just weeks after the husband purchased a gun.

Deepak Kulkarni, 50, and his wife, Arti Adya Kulkarni, 47, with their sons Shubham, 14, and Sharvil, 7, were found dead in the basement of their Chester County home on Sunday.

The county coroner said all four of them died from gunshot wounds.

West Whiteland Police Detective Scott Pezick said it’s unclear who was behind the murders but confirmed that Mr. Kulkarni had bought a gun two weeks prior to their bodies being discovered.

According to authorities, relatives from out-of-state called police to request a welfare check. Once inside, officers found four family members dead

Law enforcement is investigating the case as a murder-suicide.

"There's no indication that anything that happened was caused by somebody outside of that residence," said West Whiteland Twp. Police Det. Scott Pezick.

Arti’s brother Anand Adya said there were 'red flags' in the months leading up to their deaths. He also said they had tried to make plans with his sister and her family, only for them to be cancelled at the last minute.

“It was obvious, she wanted to meet, but he didn’t let us.” Adya said. “I would ask Arti if everything is OK, and she would never say anything.’’

Adya said that his sister would refuse to give them even an ‘’inkling that things weren’t perfect’’ in her marriage.

He described his sister as the “most devoted wife, and an even more devoted mother, sister and daughter”.

“They definitely did not deserve this,” he told the paper.

Kulkarni worked as a software analyst at Education Management Systems, according to his LinkedIn profile. His wife was also thought to be in the same field, but worked as an application developer, most recently for the University of Pennsylvania.

West Whiteland police and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office are still investigating.

Frank Lampard 'to be sacked by Chelsea today with ex-PSG boss Thomas Tuchel to replace him'

 Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard is reportedly set to be sacked today by Chelsea following the club's slump in form that sees them sit ninth in the Premier League table.

According to Daily Telegraph, the board told players not to report to the training ground until Monday afternoon, January 25, as Lampard will become the 10th manager sacked during the Roman Abramovich era.

Confirmation of Lampard's sacking is expected to be announced on Monday as the club take decisive action following a run of five losses in eight league games.

Chelsea Sunday's win over Luton Town took them to the fifth round of the FA Cup but it seems it was not enough to save the former midfielder from his job after only 18 months into his time as Chelsea manager.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager, Thomas Tuchel is reportedly in a prime position to replace Lampard as talks are currently ongoing.

In the interview, the Skeleton Key star also reflected on what it was like growing up estranged from her own father, actor, and musician Bill Hudson, which she referred to as a '41-year-old issue.'

Kate is daughter to Oscar-winning actress Goldie Hawn, and along with her brother Oliver, she was raised with Goldie's longtime partner Kurt Russell.

'I have a beautiful mother,' the Fool's Gold actress shared. 'I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life, but it doesn't take away from the fact that we didn't know our dad.'

Kate also opened up about what it’s like during this strange period of lockdown at home with her kids.

'I wanna be, like, "Yeah, it’s so great and we’re figuring out..." but the reality is that there are days that are great, and there’s days that I have to remind myself to be grateful,' Hudson said.

'I never thought in a million years that I’d spend a year in one place,' she also shared, referring to herself as a 'gypsy' who loved to travel as a working actor.

'When you have so many kids, sometimes you have those moments where you’re hiding in your bathroom going, "Please, please, get me out of here!"

'I just remind myself there’s a lot of people out there who have lost their loved ones, and we just gotta stay in for a bit,' she added.

"I am so proud of this achievement" - 36-year-old Bauchi carpenter becomes father of 13 children as his four wives give birth within 3 weeks

"I am so proud of this achievement" - 36-year-old Bauchi carpenter becomes father of 13 children as his four wives give birth within 3 weeks

A 36-year-old carpenter from Zango ward, Bauchi State, Nura Walwala Magaji, is over the moon after his four wives gave birth within three weeks, making the total number of his children thirteen, 10 boys and 3 girls.

Two among his four wives gave birth within 48 hours while the interval between the third delivery and the fourth was 21 days.

Speaking exclusively with LEADERSHIP, the proud father of 13 thanked Allah for blessing him with four additional children, adding that his childhood dream is to father at least 40 children.

"I thank God for this precious gifts because it is not everyone who desires to have children are blessed with them. While some have mixed genders, others are given boys exclusively. Babies are a gift from Allah and I am happy that my four wives gave birth to three bouncing boys and a girl within just three weeks," he said.

Although managing a large family isn’t easy, Nura insisted that with earnings from his carpentry works and proceeds from the petty trade his wives are engaged in, he would comfortably carter for his children.

"I am aware that caring for kids can feel like draining work. If we don’t find a proper balance between caretaking of our family and investing in our own self-care it can be easy to miss out on the daily joys of a childhood unfolding before your eyes, family-life, and the legacy that you have the honour of passing to your children."

Nura disclosed that the naming ceremony of the children was held with friends and family members in attendance.

"We organised a sizable naming ceremony within our means where we ate and drank with family members, friends and well-wishers. Only one of them delivered at home, the other three delivered in the hospital”, he explained.

The carpenter said he was not bothered about what people around his neighbourhood were saying because polygamy runs in his blood.

"Polygamy runs in my blood. In fact, we inherited it from both our maternal and paternal grandparents. My mother’s father married four wives , likewise my dad’s father . Yes, it might sound funny but am so proud of this achievement. Growing up as a child, I used to pray to Allah to bless me with 40 children and people laughed at me," he said.

"You know everybody has their idealogy and you cannot force a particular ideology on someone. Haven said this, bearing family responsibility is not solely in our hands as husbands , rather, it is in the hands of our Creator. Look, Allah commanded us to start by marrying two wives, then proceed to three wives , then four wives and He said if you cannot be just among them, go for one wife”, Nura added.

Nura said he is against family planning and prefers child spacing to achieve total births limiting.

"It is wrong for an individual to subscribe to the idea of family planning because of fear of poverty. It is rather better to space between one child and another to give both the mother and the baby required care and attention before bringing another one. I have 13 children now; 10 boys and three girls.

“When my adorable wives conceived, all of them were praying to have girls. Even my older children backed their mothers as earnestly desired having more sisters. As Allah would have it, the first wife gave birth to a baby boy. I only listened to them, laughed them off; and say to myself, whichever is the best for me, let Allah give me because I love children of both sexes.” I ensured that all my wives attended antenatal sessionsand adhered to all.medical advise

Malam Nura said he is determined to sponsor his children through both Western and Islamic education to make them useful to the family and the society at large.

“Nine out of the 13 children are enrolled in formal schools and just as you can see, an Alaramma is around teaching them how to memorise Qur’an.” he added.

'' It would be dangerous, reckless and counterproductive for Buhari to arrest or kill Sunday Igboho''- FFK

Femi Fani-Kayode has said it would be dangerous, reckless and counterproductive of the Buhari-led government to arrest Yoruba activist, Sunda Igboho, who gave a quit notice to Fulani herders in the state.

Reports online claim the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, ordered the Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest Igboho.

Reacting to this development via his Twitter handle, FFK wrote

''It would be dangerous, reckless & counter productive for Buhari to ARREST or KILL Sunday Igboho. When the Northern youths demanded that Igbos should leave the north no-one was arrested. Why should Sunday be arrested or killed for asking KILLER Fulani herdsmen to leave SW?

I advise the FG to tread softly because Sunday has the full support of the Yoruba nation because he has spoken for the people. Kill him & you make him a martyr for Oduduwa, arrest him & you make him the greatest hero of the Yoruba since independence. Whichever way he wins.

The way to solve the problem is to arrest the herdsmen that kill & kidnap our people in the SW & not to arrest or kill those that are standing up & speaking for their victims. Sunday did not ask for ALL Fulanis to leave SW. He asked for the killers, terrorists& kidnappers amongst them to leave Ibarapa & the Yoruba people LOVE him for it. Is that a crime?

As long as he maintains the peace & does not indulge in or encourage any violence I do not see what he has done wrong? In 1999 when Gani Adams was rising up I identified him as a young man to watch. I wrote an essay about him and I said his courage would take him far. I was proved right. Today I identify Sunday Igboho who has stood up against wickedness, injustice & apartheied in our land when other Yoruba leaders were too timid to stand. I commend his courage.''

Fulani: You can’t threaten us with war- Afenifere fires back at ACF

Fulani: You can?t threaten us with war- Afenifere fires back at ACF

Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, has reacted to the statement released by the Area Consultative Forum, in which they warned the SouthWest governors to stop the attacks on Fulanis in their states as it can lead to reprisal attacks in the North which in the long run can lead to a repeat of the 1966 civil war.

In a statement released by its publicity secretary, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere said its attention was drawn to the hypocritical tears of the AFCF over clashes in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State occasioned by the ''inimical activities of Fulani herdsmen against indigenous Yoruba people''.

The group frown at ACF's comment warning against a repeat of the 1966 civil war, insisting that the group shouldn't use war to threaten the Yorubas. The statement in part reads

“While we have gone to a great length to sue for peace and have appealed to our pained people to be law-abiding even with the daily provocations of the Fulani and harassment of our people, we frown at the very arrogant and insulting ACF statement, especially their reference to the event of 1966.

We must make it clear to them that they cannot threaten us with a war at this stage as we will not provoke war but never are we going to run for anybody on our land.

We are miffed that a body like ACF that has never shown any remorse over the killing of our people can open their mouths anyhow now because there are consequences for the irresponsible actions of their people.

We advise them to call their criminals to order and not expect our people to sheepishly wait to be killed by those who value cow lives more than human beings.”

We do not want a repeat of 1966 event but if there are people plotting such event again, the rain will be over their heads.”

Capitol rioter denied bail after admitting dragging cop down the stairs

Jeffrey Sabol, a geophysicist from Colorado who admitted assaulting an officer during the insurrection which took place at the US Capitol has been denied bail.

Sabol was denied bail after it was uncovered that he tried to flee to Switzerland after the day of the siege and then in what authorities called a different type of flight effort, attempted suicide.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Gianforti who spoke during a hearing conducted over video conference and phone in U.S. District Court in White Plains, New York on Friday January 22,  said authorities have reason to believe that Sabol may “have assaulted another police officer” with a baton that he is seen wielding during the riot.

Describing the case as “very disturbing,” a federal magistrate Andrew Krause denied bail to the 51-year-old divorced geophysicist with three children.

Krause ordered that Sabol be held without bond on a criminal complaint filed against him in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., calling him a danger to the community and a risk of flight.

The defendant was ordered removed from the Southern District of New York and will be extradited to the District of Columbia for continued prosecution. This transfer will not be immediate because the U.S. Marshals Service is currently unaware of when safe transfer will be possible due to the ongoing public health crisis surrounding the still-raging coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Saabol’s first appearance in front of the D.C. District Court will occur digitally on February 5.

Mongolian Prime Minister resigns after protest over heavy-handed treatment of a Coronavirus-infected mother and her newborn baby

Mongolian Prime Minister resigns after protest over heavy-handed treatment of a Coronavirus-infected mother and her newborn baby

Mongolian Prime Minister, Khuresukh Ukhnaa has submitted his resignation to parliament after protests in the capital Ulaanbaatar about the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

His resignation came a day after thousands protested in the capital over what they said was the heavy-handed treatment of a coronavirus-infected mother and her newborn baby. It was gathered that the woman was transferred from a maternity hospital to a quarantine facility for COVID-19 patients together with the newborn baby on Tuesday night.

The protest was triggered by the woman wearing only slippers and no outerwear in the freezing weather during the transfer.

The state news agency Montsame reported that Ukhnna's resignation is to be discussed at a parliamentary faction of the ruling Mongolian People's Party. After that, it will be addressed at a session of the parliament.

After earning praise for its handling of Coronavirus in the early stages, Mongolia has recently been battling an outbreak caused by an infected driver entering from Russia.

Farmers and forest guards in Ondo stage protest in support of Gov Akeredolu

Farmers, forest guards, and drivers in Ondo state on Thursday, January 21, staged a peaceful protest in support of the seven-day ultimatum the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, gave to unregistered herders to vacate forest reserves in Ondo.

This directive by the governor has caused a debate with the Presidency saying it is unconstitutional for the governor to order people out of his state. The state government maintains that the directive is for unregistered herdsmen grazing their cattle in its forest reserves. The state government insists that it is important for the herders to be registered as part of measures to contain the increasing level of insecurity witnessed in the state.

The protesters carried different placards with different inscriptions like ''Bandits are killing our members''

US Surgeon general, Jerome Adam resigns at Joe Biden's request

US Surgeon general, Jerome Adam resigns at Joe Biden

U.S. Surgeon General, Jerome Adams has resigned from his position at the request of President Joe Biden.

Adams, 46,  was nominated by former President Donald Trump and sworn into the job in September 2017.

In a lengthy post on Facebook, Adams wrote:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this great Nation, as this has been the honor of my life. Three years and five months ago, I was confirmed as just the 20th United States Surgeon General - and only the second ever African American male to serve in that role.

My tenure started with three category 5 hurricanes barreling down on our citizens. I immediately deployed to witness the devastation first hand, and to lead our Public Health Service Officers as we helped with the response. I saw the best of our Nation coming together in the worse of times, to help those who’d lost everything.

I then turned my attention to the opioid epidemic, encouraging more people to carry Naloxone by issuing the first Surgeon General’s advisory in over a decade. Working across government and with amazing advocacy organizations on the ground- many led by parents who had lost their own children to opioid overdose- we were able to increase Naloxone availability nationwide by over 400%, and save countless lives. This is perhaps my proudest achievement, as my family has been personally impacted my substance misuse, and I firmly believe stigma remains one of our biggest killers and barriers to health.

Being a parent of school-age children myself, I saw the need to issue subsequent advisories warning of the dangers of youth e-cigarette and youth marijuana use- a combination which merged into the deadly EVALI outbreak our Nation faced. Despite any opinions about adult use of these products, I hope Americans can agree that we must all work together to prevent youth initiation and use.

In 2019, I issued the first Surgeon Generals report in over 30 years on smoking cessation, highlighting the groups still most impacted by smoking, and the science behind what we know works to help them quit. We have made tremendous progress, but far too many- including those with mental health issues, our tribal citizens, and the LGBTQ community, haven’t shared equally in cessation successes.

And of course, there was COVID19. In the face of a once in a century pandemic, I sought to communicate the rapidly evolving science on this deadly adversary, and arm people with the knowledge and tools they needed to stay safe. I wasn’t always right- because no one was, and this virus continues to humble all of us- but I was always sincere in my efforts to speak to everyday Americans, and address the terrible health inequities this virus exposed.

My team also put out historic Surgeon General’s Calls to Action on Hypertension Control, Maternal Health, and Suicide Prevention. We did this because even in midst of a deadly pandemic, hundreds of thousands of people are killed by these other health risks every year. For example, more people died from uncontrolled high blood pressure in 2020 than from Covid-19. We mustn’t forget about all the other harms Americans face every day, or the many opportunities we have to improve health, and build more resilient communities. And we mustn’t forget that diseases and health risks rarely impact all communities equally. That's why these Calls to Action specifically mention the groups disparately impacted, and talk about the need to study and address aggravating factors like bias.

Finally, I released a completely novel type of Surgeon Generals report- a report on Community Health and Economic Prosperity. It emphasizes the links between the health of our communities and the health of our economies. It is unique in that it makes the business case for why we all should care about and invest in the vital conditions that create opportunities and healthier communities.

During my tenure, I have visited with people from all across America. And despite all that you may read on social media or see on tv, I can assure you that from Alaska to Alabama, from Maine to Montana, and from California to the Carolinas, Americans mostly want the same thing. They want a fair shot at being their best and healthiest self, and to be able to support the health and well being of their families.

And speaking of families, I want to thank those of you who supported me and my family- my wife who is undergoing cancer treatment, my brother who is struggling to overcome addiction, my mother who suffered a stroke earlier this year, and my kids who sacrificed time with their dad so that he could serve this Nation. And thanks to those of you who have become part of my family- the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, my dedicated support staff in the Office of the Surgeon General, the amazing colleagues and friends I’ve met across government, and the many people across this great Nation who constantly pray for my wife and kids, and ask about my dog Bella.

I hope in 2021 and beyond, we can focus more on what unites us, and rise above what divides us. Because Americans working together can overcome any obstacle or adversary. I stand at the ready to help in our mutual quest for recovery, resilience, and health, and thank you from the bottom of my heart, for the opportunity to serve.

Adams’ resignation came shortly after Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office.

Back in December, the Biden administration announced its nominee, Vivek Murthy for the role of the surgeon general. He previously served in the position under former President Barack Obama and he’s a close adviser to Biden.

US Surgeon general, Jerome Adam resigns at Joe Biden

When his nomination was revealed, Murthy said in a statement: "In this moment of crisis, I’m grateful for the opportunity to help end this pandemic, be a voice for science, and support our nation on its path to rebuilding and healing.”

A tyrant's era has come to an end' - Iran's president Hassan Rouhani celebrates Trump's exit from the White House

Islamic Republic of Iran's President, Hassan Rouhani has dubbed outgoing US President, Donald Trump as a tyrant, after Trump released a farewell speech hours before Joe Biden takes over as president of the United States.

Rouhani, whose regime with Supreme leader Ayotallah Khamenei is one of the most repressive and dictatorial in the Islamic Nation's history, called on United States President-elect, Joe Biden, to return to the 2015 nuclear deal and lift sanctions imposed on Tehran by Donald Trump's administration.

Speaking at a televised cabinet meeting Wednesday, January 20, Rouhani said the ball was "in the US court now."

"If Washington returns to Iran's 2015 nuclear deal, we will also fully respect our commitments under the pact," he said, adding in reference to Trump that "a tyrant's era came to an end and today is the final day of his ominous reign."

Tensions between the two countries were at an all time high during Trump's time in office as he castigated the Iran Nuclear deal saying it was a cover up for Iran to develop a nuclear bomb.

Tensions also increased after the US assassinated Iranian general Qasem Soleimani last January using a military drone.

Recently Trump ordered Nuclear capable jets to fly over the Middle East as political observers feared Trump could start a war with Iran by bombing an Iranian nuclear site.

Biden -- a member of the Obama administration which negotiated the original Iran Nuclear deal -- entering office on Wednesday noon, hopes are high for diplomacy between both countries.

At the meeting Wednesday, Rouhani castigated Trump, saying his four years in office "bore no fruit other than injustice and corruption and causing problems for his own people and the world."

Under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, the Iranian government agreed to three key things: reducing the number of centrifuges in the country by two-thirds, slashing its stockpile of enriched uranium, and capping ongoing enrichment at 3.67%, an amount sufficient for energy provision but not enough to build a nuclear bomb.

In addition, Iran was required to limit uranium research and development, and allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) certain access to its nuclear facilities.

In return for its compliance, all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran were lifted and the economy grew.

But Trump ended the deal in 2018, sending the nation into economic hardship and blocking the Islamic Nation's ability to conduct business with other nations.

Biden has expressed a desire to return to the 2015 agreement, telling CNN last year that Trump had "recklessly tossed away a policy that was working to keep America safe and replaced it with one that has worsened the threat."

"I will offer Tehran a credible path back to diplomacy," the then-candidate wrote in September. "If Iran returns to strict compliance with the nuclear deal, the United States would rejoin the agreement as a starting point for follow-on negotiations."
