President Buhari’s re-election is a triumph of ordinary Nigerians over elite – FG

The Federal Government has described President Buhari’s electoral victory as the triumph of ordinary Nigerians over the nation’s elite.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this when he received the management of his ministry in his office yesterday February 28th. The ministry workers were in his office to congratulate him on the victory of the APC in last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

“Last weekend’s election is a direct contest between ordinary Nigerians and the elite, most of whom are rent seekers. Of course, the ordinary Nigerians have won!” he said.

Mohammed said the President's victory is a confirmation of the fact that ordinary Nigerians appreciate the pro-people policies of the present administration which, he said, is doing more with far less resources.

“Overall, this government is doing more with less and is restoring decency and integrity to governance. Like the New York Times said, the re-election of President Buhari is a referendum on honesty. There is no better way to put it,” he stated.

While reeling out the policies that endeared President Buhari to the ordinary Nigerians, the Minister said under the Social Investment Programme, the government feeds 9.3 million school children everyday and some 500,000 unemployed graduates have been employed under N-Power, in addition to some 300,000 families who are benefitting from the Conditional Cash Transfer.

He said in a deliberate effort to boost the Small and Medium Enterprises to contribute significantly to the nation’s economy, the Buhari Administration gives out interest-free loans of between N10,000 and N100,000 under the TraderMoni and the MarketMoni Schemes to small business owners.

“Pensioners who have been left in the lurch are being paid, and I am talking of ex-workers of the Nigerian Airways, NITEL and former Biafran Policemen, among others. The former Nigeria Airways staffers were so delighted that they held a rally in support of the President
before the elections,” Alhaji Mohammed said.

He said the fight against corruption is being institutionalized with a number of policies that include Treasury Single Account (TSA), Whistleblower policy, and that it has led to the recovery of huge amounts of money as well as property from looters.

The Minister therefore enjoined the citizenry to continue to support the Buhari Administration in building of a strong, secure, economically-buoyant and corrupt-free society.

Police stop anti-Tinubu protest in Lagos

Armed policemen have reportedly stopped a protest march being organized by a group of activist in Lagos. The activists under the auspicies, Orange movement, had decided to stage a rally this morning to appeal to residents of the state to come out enmass to vote against the Bola Tinubu candidate in the March 9th governorship election. The group argued that a vote for the governorship candidate of Bola Tinubu, is an extension of his ''rule'' in Lagos state.

Tinubu, a former governor of the state, is in support of APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The group had gathered in front of the Airport Hotel, Ikeja early this morning, to kick off their protest march. They had adopted “O to Ge” chant meaning “Enough is Enough”, which was used to uproot the political structure of Senate President Bukola Saraki in Kwara state during the election. They were stopped by armed policemen.

According to the policemen, the group did not seek permission before embarking on the protest march.

Court refuses to make permanent forfeiture order on Patience Jonathan’s $8.4m, N7.4b

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed an application from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to order the final forfeiture of $8.4 million and N7.4 billion linked to former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

The judge had in April 2018 ordered the temporary forfeiture of the funds which EFCC said were suspected to be proceeds of crime. Mrs Jonathan, Globus Integrated Services Ltd, Finchley Top Homes Ltd, Am-Pm Global Network Ltd, Pagmat Oil and Gas Ltd and Magel Resort Ltd and Esther Oba, all companies linked to her, had indicated at the time that the sum of money been investigated were donations she received from good citizens who loved her and wanted to bless her.

Among the temporarily forfeited sums are N1.085billion and N226.3million found in Finchley’s Ecobank account and N39.4million found in its Diamond Bank account, as well as N55.9million found in Pagmat Oil and Gas’ Diamond Bank account, among others.

Justice Olatoregun today said all the parties in the suit must give oral evidence to justify the money’s source and ownership.

“I have stated here that the right of parties in this suit cannot be determined by affidavit evidence. Oral testimonies are to be called with cross extermination. I hereby order parties to call upon their witnesses so that the right of parties can be determined one way or the other,” the judge ruled.

"Hot Felon" Jeremy Meeks has slammed reports that his relationship with Topshop heiress Chloe Green, 27, is in crisis after news of their recent "tearful bust up" in Dubai emerged.

A family source recently told MailOnline that Jeremy and Chloe had a tearful row in Dubai. The couple had a public row on February 19 at the Cavalli Club in Dubai where Meeks stormed out of the venue, leaving Chloe on her own. Chloe is said to have jetted to her home in Monaco alone while Jeremy has been partying in LA.

Later, eagle-eyed followers noticed that in all of Chloe's recent Instagram photos, she wasn't wearing her rumoured engagement ring.

But Jeremy has said their relationship is still intact. The model, 35, was pictured shopping at XIV Karats in Beverly Hills on Wednesday with his half-sister Carmella Jesus when he was asked about the status of his relationship.

Photos: Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un shake hands to begin summit in Hanoi, Vietnam

US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un are currently meeting at the start of their high-profile summit in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi.

The pair shook hands before heading to talks and dinner at the five-star Metropole hotel where they are expected to discuss a roadmap for ridding the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons in two days of talks.

There has been little progress on that and other issues since the first Trump-Kim summit in Singapore last year. President Trump said he thought this latest meeting would be "very successful".

Earlier, he tweeted in praise of the host country on Wednesday morning, writing: "Vietnam is thriving like few places on earth. North Korea would be the same, and very quickly, if it would denuclearize. The potential is AWESOME".

2019 election: ''Wisdom calls for Atiku to congratulate President Buhari'' Rochas Okorocha

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has asked the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded election, Atiku Abubakar, to show the spirit of sportsmanship and call President Buhari to concede defeat.

Okorocha in an interview with newsmen in Owerri, the state capital this morning, said wisdom calls for Atiku to congratulate President Buhari on his re-election victory.

“Wisdom calls for the PDP candidate to congratulate him (Buhari), to show appreciation because when you don’t do that, people will begin to think that you are doing this for selfish reasons. Nigeria is bigger than all of us, leaders must learn to make sacrifices where possible, not to their own comfort but to the comfort of the nation. That is what leadership is all about,” he said

Atiku has since issued a statement saying he will not concede defeat and will not call President Buhari who has since been declared winner of the 2019 poll. Atiku says the election was marred by electoral malpractice.

R. Kelly leaves jail after female 'friend' posts his $100K bail (Photo)

Embattled R&B singer, R. Kelly has been released from jail after posting bail following multiple charges of criminal sexual abuse.

Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari told USA TODAY that Kelly posted $100,000 , which is 10 percent of the $1 million bond set Saturday, after spending three days behind bars.

Court documents show his bail was paid by a 47-year-old woman from the Chicago suburb of Romeoville, Illinois, according to the Chicago Tribune. She listed herself as a "friend" of Kelly.

On Monday afternoon, he was pictured with his defense attorney, Steve Greenberg walking out of the Cook County Jail following his release.

The terms of Kelly's release prohibits him from having any contact with females under the age of 18.

The release comes just hours after he pleaded not guilty to 10 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He's accused of sexually assaulting four women between 1998 and 2010 and his alleged victims include three who were aged between 13 and 17 at the time.

The singer's next court date is March 22.

Court to rule on ex-Adamawa Governor’s son, Abdul-Aziz’s request to travel today

Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court, Abuja has adjourned to February 26, 2019 to hear an application filed by Abdul-Aziz Nyako, son to a former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, seeking for the release of his international passport, to enable him travel to Saudi Arabia, to perform the lesser hajj.

Abdul-Aziz is being prosecuted by the EFCC, along with his father, Abubakar Aliyu and Zulkifikk Abba, for allegedly laundering about N29 Billion state funds, using five companies – Blue Opal Limited, Sebore Farms & Extension Limited, Pagoda Fortunes Limited, Tower Assets Management Limited and Crust Energy Limited.

Bringing the application to court on February 25, 2019, defence counsel, R.A. Liman, told the court it was for the release of the international passport for the second and third defendants.

Prosecuting counsel, O.A. Atolagbe, however, noted that the prosecution would need time to go through the application and to come back to the court with its reply. Justice Abang, thereafter, adjourned for “hearing of the application”, and fixed April 8, 10 and 11, 2019 for “continuation of trial”.

Boy, 16, choked and raped girl, 10, on way home from school then dumped her in a ditch

A teenage boy choked and raped a young girl as she headed home from school, then left her for dead in a stream.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of five offences relating to the incident in Exmouth, Devon, in October last year.

The girl, while going home from school, took her phone out to call her mother when she heard footsteps running behind her. Suddenly, hands grabbed her around the throat and she was dragged down a bank into the stream by the boy, who allegedly raped her after she fell unconscious.

A jury of nine women and three men were told the boy, now aged 17, admits choking the girl and sexually assaulting her but denies charges of attempted murder and rape. He was cycling home when he saw the girl in a grassy area, close to a riverbank covered in trees.

Prosecutor Anna Vigars QC said:

Although she never saw his face, the defendant was the person who grabbed her from behind.

We know that because he accepts that it was him. He took hold of her from behind, around her throat, wrapping his arm around her neck and squeezing hard.

By accident, she held down the home button on her phone – that activated Siri. That drew his attention to the mobile phone.

He took it out of her hands and threw it away from her, into the bushes.

She had seen some self-defence videos so she tried to do what she saw on those videos, which was to kick her attacker in the groin, but because he was holding her so tightly she couldn’t move sufficiently to get a good kick in.

Mrs Vigars said the boy continued to hold the girl around her neck and walked her towards the stream, tightening his grip when she did not move with him.

In a police interview, the girl described how she was "fading into a sleep" as she sat down in the water, Metro UK reports.

Mrs Vigars told the jury:

She thought she was going to die.

She thought a way to avoid the whole thing was to pretend that she was already dead. She flopped down and shut her eyes.

She hoped that whoever it was who had hold of her neck might just give up and leave her. When she pretended that was what was happening to her, she did fade away.

She can remember nothing from that point until she came to in the stream.

A woman walking by the stream found the girl after hearing "a panicked yelling" as she shouted out for a teacher, the court heard. The girl told her she had been strangled by a man who had taken her mobile phone. Police were called and an investigation was launched, with a number of doctors examining the girl.

The doctors found injuries to her genital area, while the boy’s DNA was present on her body and underwear. Bruising to the girl’s neck matched the seams of the coat he had been wearing, Mrs Vigars said.

The prosecution say he was trying to kill her and it was only luck that she didn’t die as he held her around the throat hard enough and for long enough for her to fall unconscious.

He meant her to die and he left her in that cold stream in October to die.

The boy denies charges of attempted murder, attempting to choke with intent to commit rape, and rape of a child under 13. He admits attempting to choke with intent to commit sexual assault and assault by penetration.

The trial, due to last for two weeks, continues.

Empire star Jussie Smollett ‘didn’t pay Nigerian brothers $3,500 for fake attack’ - Sources claim

It has been claimed in a new report that Jussie Smollett ‘didn’t pay Nigerian brothers Olaand Abel Osundairo $3,500 to beat him up amid claims he staged the homophobic and racist attack.

This comes after the Chicago Police Department alleged the Gay Empire actor paid the brothers $3,500 (£2,681) to beat him up in Chicago, before putting a noose around his neck and poured bleach on him in what he said was a homophobic and racist attack.

Now sources connected to the case has told TMZ that the 36-year-old actually gave the pair money to train him and get him in shape for an upcoming music video.

Read the TMZ report below.

The brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo made a deal with Jussie to train him for 5 weeks so he could get in shape for an upcoming music video. Jussie had said to Ola that he wanted abs like his. Both Abel and Ola agreed to train Jussie, and also give him a 5-week nutrition plan.

Our sources say Jussie told the brothers he would pay them for their services, but no specific amount was discussed.

A few days before the "attack," Jussie wrote the brothers a check for $3,500. The memo line read, "5 weeks training nutrition plan."

Our sources say Ola and Abel told the grand jury they were paid for the 5-week program and not for the "attack." One source connected with the brothers did say Ola and Abel felt the amount was "a little high" but no one ever specifically said anything about any of the money being part of a scheme.

We've learned the brothers also told the grand jury that they had nothing to do with the threatening letter mailed to Jussie Smollett 8 days before the "attack.

''I leave him to God'' Olajumoke Orisaguna reacts to claims her relationship with her baby daddy is in crisis

Last week, an interview in which the lover of Bread seller turned model, Olajumoke Orisaguna, Sunday Orisaguna, alleged that their relationship is in crisis, went viral.

Sunday in the viral interview, was quoted to have said that his union with Olajumoke is currently in crisis as she no longer respects him, keeps late night and has no regard for their home.

Olajumoke shot into limelight in 2016 after she unknowningly ''photobombed'' a photo shoot celebrity photographer, TY Bello was having with London-based rapper, Tinie Tempah, in Lagos. Many Nigerians took to her after the photos surfaced online.

Well, Olajumoke, has reacted to the controversial interview Sunday granted. In a fresh interview with Punch, she denied claims that they are no longer together. She insinuated that their differences is not unconnected with the fact that she no longer gives all her money to him. She added that she leaves Sunday to God.

“Anybody can say whatever pleases them with their mouth. He is the one that has been spreading such stories. When a man knows everything about you, he can choose to do whatever with that information. As for me, I am okay and there is nothing wrong with me.” she said

Denying that there was any rift in their union, Olajumoke said,

“Whatever is going on is known to God. We are still together. He has never discussed all what he has been saying outside with me, so I don’t understand what he is driving at because we sleep in the same house. Well, he can continue saying whatever pleases him but I will not say anything bad about him. There is nobody I will discuss his matter with; I just leave him to God. God will judge between us.”

Asked if Sunday was displeased because she no longer gave him money, Olajumoke said,

“Now you understand what I have been saying. I do not need to break it down beyond that; you already know what I mean. I will not say anything bad about him. I have handed him to God.”

Reacting to the claims that she has broken up with her former manager, Azuka Ogujuiba, Olajumoke said

“Azuka was one of the people that assisted me at the inception of my career. She is usually busy and that is why I decided to change my manager. I still communicate regularly with Azuka and we have even spoken today (Thursday). She and TY Bello are like sisters to me.”

Olajumoke said she hadn’t become a spendthrift since she came to the limelight. “I have always been a good manager. Even when I was working in the bakery, I knew how to manage the resources available to me. Can you imagine a man not working for two years and being fed by a woman?”

DSS dismisses of one of its staff, Jaja Otelemaba, for taking bribe from motorists while on election duty in Ekiti State

The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed of one of its staff, Jaja Otelemaba, for taking bribe from motorists while on election duty in Ekiti State.

Peter Afunanya, Public Relations Officer of the Service, in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, said the officer was seen on social media where he was negotiating with a motorist for financial patronage.

“The fact is that when the news broke, the Service initiated a line of investigative actions. These include the search and identification of the said officer; his withdrawal from the duty post and issuance of a memo as applicable to his cadre and rank,” he said.

He added that Otelemaba was tried in an orderly room and summarily dismissed in line with the Service’s disciplinary procedures. The spokesman said that the dismissal was in accordance with the Director General of the Service’s commitment to promote discipline in the Service. He said that his stance on issues concerning discipline has continued to prove his intolerance for misconduct and discreditable behaviour.

”The Service reaffirms its commitment to professionalism, excellence and the rule of law. The DSS, as usual, rededicates itself to the security of the ongoing electoral exercise and reassures the nation of its sustained transparency and accountability in dealing with citizens,” he said.

A source confirmed this to People, saying: 'It seemed she had an agreement with Tristan that they would deny hooking up if they got caught. He said no one would find out.'

'Jordyn was shocked when the family did find out and confronted her. Jordyn acted very distraught. But the family feels that she is mostly upset that she got caught.

'Tristan and Jordyn were definitely hanging close to one another and were being very flirty. Tristan had his arms around her at one point. Jordyn stood by him the entire time they were out and he was laughing and smiling at her,' the insider added.

'Jordyn stayed at Tristan's house partying with him and his friends until the early hours of the morning, and they were very touchy. They sat together on the couch and were talking and cuddling for hours. They had chemistry the entire night and everyone could see it ... You could tell they were into each other.'

Apparently, Jordyn was taken back by Tristan's advances.

'Jordyn was insecure and always known as [Kylie Jenner’s] BFF, so once she started getting attention on her own as her own person from Tristan, she didn’t know how to handle it,' a source told People.

'Jordyn was on a little bit of a high, but now is at her lowest point. It’s really sad for Kylie because Jordyn was Kylie’s only real friend and she feels lost.'

It was also reported that Khloe confronted Jordyn after she found out that she had hooked up with Cleveland Cavaliers player at the LA house party on February 17.

The 34-year-old reality star and mother of one asked her if she had made out with Tristan because she wanted to hear it directly from her.

At first, Woods denied it, according to UsWeekly, but then she admitted what had happened.
